Academics

Academic is very important in life. I think it determines your future. If you are advance in your academics you have better choices of what you want to be when you are an adult. What choices you have to get there. My mother says all she wants for my brothers and I, is to get the best education we can, to prepare us for a better life.
When I was 3 years old, my mother put me in preschool. She felt I was advance for my age and that school would be fun and entertaining for me. It was because I enjoy playing with my friends. Pre-school kept me busy and I learned a lot before I started preschool.
I went to a Catholic private school for elementary and the only I liked about that school was religion. Most of my teachers were okay but sometimes I did understand my teachers and I felt like I was not learning at the right level. I felt that private schools did not have all the service needed like one on one tutoring or many other programs that the LAUSD offered.
I went two different high schools. First I went to an alliance school. I think that they are good schools but I do not like how strict there rules are. There academics are very good, well I thought they were pretty demanding. If you fall back in any grade it is really hard to catch up. My mother liked the school but she did not like some of the rules that the alliance school offered. That is why she transferred me to West Adams; I feel less pressure here because LAUSD offers different courses to help your grades.
My goal is to graduate and go to a university. I would like to experience the college life. I am not sure what I want to be as an adult but I do know whatever it is I will try to do all in my power to be perfect in it and enjoy it. I know academics plays a major rule in it.

What is an american?

It is great thing to be an American girl. It is nice that in America there is freedom. There are many different definitions for the word American. To Michel-Guillaume Jean de Crevecoeur an American was a strange mixture of blood from different nations. A new man with religion and different laws. I am proud to be an American because I have freedom of speech, religion and to live in the world of opportunities.
To be an American girl I have the freedom of speech. If I disagreed on something, I would be able to give my personal opinion in regard to the subject. It would count and matter, not like back in the old days, when a woman’s word was not allowed nor was it excepted nor did it mean anything. All a woman was good for was to be a housewife, who takes care of the house, food and the children. I am glad we have a right to education to become whatever I want to be as a good educated person.
In America there are many different religions. You have a right as an American to believe in whatever you want. People should not discriminate you against religion, yet ignorant people still do.
Many people have immigrated to America because it is known for the land of opportunities. My family is second American-Latino generation. My grandparents came from El Salvador, Mexico, and Guatemala. They came here for a better life style and they made the best decision for their families. I actually have an opportunity to go to college and I consider that a privilege. So if you ask me if I am proud to be American, my answer would be yes.
